Will Cotton & Louis Zoellar Bickett II

Welcome to Adele Delivers, an email with concise descriptions of Adele Gilani’s favorite artists to rouse your creative spirit and deepen your relationship with art.

Will Cotton

Will Cotton is all about glamour and pleasure. His oil paintings masterfully depict the sweet pop confections and cherished holiday dreams we've held dear since childhood with a seductive twist that appeals to our sophisticated side. The subjects' gaze tends to mitigate the childlike appeal of his creations. I love his work because each painting envelops me in a fairytale where I’m the protagonist. See more of Will’s work here.

Louis Zoellar Bickett II (1950-2017)

I first learned about Louis Bickett when he gave my then-boyfriend, a recovered alcoholic celebrating a year of sobriety, an elegant wax-sealed bottle of his own urine labeled "Drug-Free Piss."

Since age 27, Kentucky artist Louis Bickett saved every meaningful item from his life and meticulously labeled it with a project name, location, date, and title which usually alluded to a larger theme in his life, typically religion, sexuality, family, place, and time. “The Archive” as he calls it spans over 40 years. By creating “The Archive” he not only tells us the beautiful and moving story of his life, he emphasizes the significance and power of tangible items in our own lives, illustrating how they carry our stories and preserve our stories for generations to come. Learn more about Louis here.

Louis died at age 67 from ALS and is greatly missed.

This week I finished a new oil painting “Rainy Day at Cavallo Point” . Check it out and let me know what you think. I hope you’ve enjoyed this art delivery. Thank you for being here. I’ll see you again next week with more. XxA
